Experience & Philosophy
With over 25 years of experience as a marching band drill writer, I specialize in creating dynamic and visually stunning drill design for both high school and university marching bands of all sizes and ability levels. My goal is to write your marching band's drill in a way that enhances your band's performance, making them both look and sound great, and engages everyone involved in the process, from band members to audiences to judges.
As a music arranger as well as a drill designer, I understand the importance of proper instrument staging to complement the music. Instruments will always be positioned for optimal impact...you need never worry about trumpets with the melody being staged behind the back hash or outside the 20 yard line...unless that is what you want.

With extensive experience in writing marching band drill, I cater to a wide range of groups, from small 40-member bands to large ensembles of over 300 members, and everything in between. Each drill design is custom-crafted to meet your band's unique needs and specifications, ensuring a show that reflects your program's individuality. I never reuse or recycle previous drill designs; every show starts from scratch.
My specialty as a drill designer is in writing drill that can be taught and cleaned efficiently, making it ideal for non-competitive marching bands, those performing multiple shows in one season (such as college marching bands), or bands that compete on a smaller scale. While my focus is not on ultra-competitive drill with over 200 sets, if you're looking for fast-paced, difficult marching band drill design that will challenge you and your students to excel at the highest levels, I am more than happy to oblige!

About Me
My journey in the pageantry arts began with my high school marching band in South Florida, after which I marched with the Phantom Regiment Drum and Bugle Corps during some of its most successful competitive years (1991-1994), starting as a lead baritone and later serving as one of its drum majors.
After graduating from Florida State University, I secured my first high school teaching position, and began as a drill writer for my own marching band, eventually expanding to write drill for other marching bands in the region.
During those early years of teaching, I wrote drill by hand, using traditional tools like flexi curves, drafting compasses, protractors, lightboards, and Raxsdale Drill Design Paper. I later transitioned to Drill Quest design software, before finally upgrading to Pyware, which I've been using since 2004 (and for whom I also contribute as a beta tester).
